Dart Pro 310 Big Block - Crack Repair

Repair Stages

This picture shows a Dart 310 aluminum big block Chevy head which cracked around the end rocker stud boss and over adjacent head bolt hole. This crack had previously been welded at another shop, but began to leak again several races later. After veeing out of the crack, it became apparent that the original crack wasn’t fully ground out but merely welded over. |

Here we have made a preliminary attempt at veeing out the crack and have probed for the end of the crack with a tig torch.
|

Having found the ends of the crack, we can completely grind it out. Time to weld. |
Here is the head with the finish welding done.
|

This view shows all the grinding and finishing completed. The head bolt hole has been re-drilled and spot faced.
|

Same repair from another angle. The spring seat has been re-cut to true-it up after welding. |

Head shown in the pressure tester. |

When it holds 40 psi without leaking, then it’s good to go.
|

This is what the customer gets when he opens the box. |
