Hemi Magnesium Supercharger Blower Manifold Repair

These two photos show a crack in a runner of a magnesium supercharger manifold for a blown alcohol Fontana (formerly Arias).

The following picture shows Manifold with crack vee’d out prior to welding. 

This image shows that the root welding pass has been laid in. This is a ticklish bit of welding on magnesium to prevent a new crack from forming.

These views show the finished repair.  Because of the distortion from welding, we had to surface the head flanges and the blower mounting surface. 

 

 

 

In the course of the repair,  we discovered cracks around the burst panel mount, which the customer wasn’t aware of.  We were so fatigued after all of this welding that we couldn’t hold the camera steady, hence the blurry photos.  Rest assured that the repairs were correct even if the photos were not. Someone toss us a beer!
